International Women’s Day | Female Winemakers

International Women’s Day, celebrated March 8th, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.  In honor of today being International Women’s Day, we wanted to draw some attention to some of the amazing female winemakers we have the honor to represent here in the United States.

Laurence Feraud – Pegau, Château & Domaine

international women's dayLaurence Feraud is likely one of the most renowned female winemakers the world has seen. From her amazing Domaine du Pegau Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines to her Château Pegau Côtes du Rhône wines, everything Laurence touches is critically acclaimed, steeped in tradition, and, above-all, delicious. She has made her name as an extremely talented winemaker, often referred to as the “Queen of Châteauneuf-du-Pape” and “wine royalty”. Her passion, knowledge, and talent are apparent in everything she does, and her enthusiasm for great wine is contagious. “This is fantastic!” she says in an interview with The Extract’s Kyle Meyer, speaking to the range of endless possibilities of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. “There’s 280 winemakers, there’s many, many possibilities with the thirteen types of grapes, with the four types of terroirs, and with different winemaking processes, different aging… It’s why Domaine du Pegau has its identity.”

Gioia Cresti, Carpineta Fontalpino

The Cresti family has been proprietors of the Carpineta Fontalpino Vineyard since the 1960’s, located in the middle of Tuscany. Gioia Cresti is the winemaker and oenologist, and is responsible for all the production phases, from the winemaking to the aging. She literally “picks up” the best grapes so that her personal style is imprinted on the whole wine production.  Her wines are critically acclaimed, and beautifully made, and her passion for creating wine that reflects the terroirs and respects nature is apparent. Gioia strives to maintain the unaltered countryside and its traditions, proud to be part of such a generous area.
