About
Quinta das Tecedeiras is located at the heart of the prime stretch of the Douro’s wine-producing region, some eight kilometres upstream from the town of Pinhão. This property with its privileged views over the river Douro is home to a rich history – mainly of wine-making and olive oil production, but also of the nuns who once lived here, and their flax spinning and weaving that eventually gave the property its name. Tecedeiras means “weavers”.
Quinta das Tecedeiras, whose historic vineyards are bathed by the waters of the Douro River, is located in the heart of Portugal’s most renowned wine-producing region – more precisely on the left bank of the river in the sub-region of Cima Corgo, between the towns of Pinhão and São João da Pesqueira. On the 67-hectare estate producers Lima Smith Lda. make both DOC Douro and Port wines that have been awarded and recognized internationally. Currently Tecedeiras wines are sold in several markets worldwide – from South America to Asia.

The purchase of the Quinta das Tecedeiras brand by Lima Smith in August, 2013, means the company can farm the property for several decades. The original Tecedeiras team, headed by winemaker Carlos Lucas, has been hired back and the estate launched this year its first vintages – 2013 table wines and a Special Reserve Port from the early years of the noughties. Expect to see Flor das Tecedeiras and Quinta das Tecedeiras Reserva, plus Vintage and LBV Ports return to their former glory over the next years. Olive oil production has also been resumed and the new oils will be launched in the last quarter of 2014.
