  • Winemaker Notes Durand Saint Omer bought Château Cluzan from M. Cluzan in 2008. The estate has a state-of-the-art winemaking facility. He has thrown all his know-how and passion for winegrowing and winemaking into making the estate thrive. Impeccably kept, medium-sized family property. The vineyard and the cellar are managed with rigor and passion by Durand Saint Omer, who produces a deeply colored, intensely fruity wine, with pure varietal aromas and excellent structure.
  • Tasting Notes A beautiful deep garnet hue, Château Cluzan has a chewy, fruit-forward attack. Pure varietal aroma of the wine shows notes of juicy perfectly ripe Merlot: dark cherry, blackberry, raspberry, plum jam, violet, leather and tobacco leaves. The Merlot grapes make this a fat, full, generous wine, with silky tannins on the back of palate accompanying a powerful, elegant finish. Recommended to combine with red meat and mature cheeses.
  • Vineyard The vineyard is situated on the hillsides overlooking the Garonne river. The soils are made up of sections of clay, gravel and silt, forming a natural drainage, which allows to maintain a low yield.
  • Vinification The grapes are harvested using two machines with the latest technology to ensure the integrity of the berries. The date of harvesting varies from plot to plot depending on the level of ripeness and the condition of the grapes. Vinification takes place in traditional Bordeaux method: grapes are sorted and removed from the stalks and then sent to the temperature-controlled vats. They are fermented at between 30 to 32°C and vatting time is determined by daily tastings of the wines from each vat. After the vats have been run off, the free run wine and the press wine are aged separately. Bottled early with no oak ageing to preserve the maximum amount of freshness. The final blending takes place in June.
