  • Winemaker Notes Château Bégadan is the fruit of the labors of Jean-Pierre and Martine Salette, the owners since 1974 of a few hectares of vines in the village of the same name. The terroir in which these vines are planted yields superbly powerful wines with an excellent bouquet. Traditional wine making methods and ageing in oak complement the natural qualities of the wine to the greatest satisfaction of the proprietors and their discerning customers. Note that over the past ten years, the wines of Château Bégadan have won medals in various competitions, notably in Bordeaux and Mâcon.
  • Tasting Notes A deep ruby hue, with a generous nose of fruit and spices. Beautifully smooth and creamy extract wrapped around a lingering structure. Powerful, many-layered bouquet of black-berried fruits combined with notes of roasted oak and forest floor. The front-of-palate is supported by tannins which are still young and harmoniously enveloped in creamy extract. A Médoc wine from a legendary vintage which should not be opened for 3 years after vintage. Goes well with beef, lamb, game, poultry, and blue cheese. Serve at 63 - 65 degrees F.
  • Vineyard Sandy, calcareous clay.
  • Vinification Guyot double pruning method. Vines trellised, with desuckering and leaf thinning. Low yields. Grapes sorted twice in succession. Traditional winemaking methods, including destalking and crushing. Alcoholic fermentation is temperature-controlled at 30°C-32°C. Maceration at 32°C-35°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled cement vats. Traditional ageing in barrels for 18 months. Racked every three months.
