WINEMAKER NOTES
Antica Masseria Jorche is led by Dalila and Emanuel, the fifth generation of the Gianfreda family to lead the winery. Dedicated to the history of their estate and their region, they produce some of the truest and finest wines Puglia has to offer. This story began with Giovanni, in the “palamientu” of the Gianfreda family. His son, Costantino, worked side by side with his father, even through the devastation brought by phylloxera in the 1920s. With the need to replant, all resources and energy were dedicated to planting the new vines—taking the place of the old fig and almond trees—and also to producing the wines which were destined for the cellars in the North. Their legacy was handed off to Cosimo, Giovanni’s nephew, as he continued the family tradition with determination, and managed to increase the production by restructuring the organisation, culminating in the construction of their first real mechanical cellar in the 1950s.
