WINEMAKER NOTES
The Stepskis, Central European nobles, even before crossing their destinies with those of the Rechsteiner family, had discovered the attraction for the Serenissima and its lands. Felix Moritz Stepski-Doliwa, the Austro-Hungarian garrison leader, had decided to create a refreshment post for his soldiers and officers in Venice. There is still a trace of this in the sign Sandwirth, or “sand host”, which decorates the front door of the Hotel Gabrielli in Venice. In 1881, Friederich Rechsteiner took over from the Revedin counts the estate and the seventeenth-century Villa of Piavon di Oderzo, which originally belonged to the Bonamico family and before that to Cardinal Ottoboni. Even today, the farm is run by a direct descendant of the founder: Baron Florian von Stepski-Doliwa, great-grandson of Friederich’s youngest daughter who married a Stepski.
TASTING NOTES
Pale straw yellow. Fruity nose with hints of yellow apple, pear, and flowers. Medium body, smooth palate, and soft ending. A perfect aperitif, it pairs well with all seafood, risotto, and baked vegetables.
