WINEMAKER NOTES

This rich and elegant Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru ideally complements a cocktail party or a gastronomic meal. Its complexity proves a match for the finest delicacies.

TASTING NOTES

The color is a rich crystalline gold. The nose opens up with notes of fig, prune and pineapple. On tasting, the wine is rich, fleshy and velvety. It is beautifully vivacious as well as vinous. It combines fruity roundness with minerality, leaving a hint of sea salt. Its taste is remarkably long and its freshness stupefying for a blanc de noirs.

VINEYARD

Guided by Alain Soutiran’s daughter, Valérie Renaux-Soutiran, and her winemaking husband Patrick Renaux, Champagne Soutiran cultivates 11 hectares of vines of which six are family-owned. Most of the vines are located in Ambonnay, the rest is in Trepail, Chigny les Roses and Chamery. Pinot Noir is dominating, but there is also Chardonnay and a little bit of Pinot Meunier. Valérie and Patrick are the third generation of the family domaine that produces clear, full, intense and elegant Champagnes of really excellent quality.

VINIFICATION

PRESS

“A Blanc de Noirs made from 100% Pinot Noir, this is already showing some maturity, with flavors of black truffles and mushrooms to go with the richness. There is a yeasty character that blends well with the almonds and currants. The finish is ripe and full.”  – 92 points, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast

“Vivid yellow. Intense, mineral-accented orchard fruit and cherry scents, with notes of dried rose, smoky minerals and anise adding complexity. Stains the palate with concentrated strawberry and orange zest flavors, becoming spicier with air. Clings with excellent tenacity on the finish, with the smoke and mineral notes emphatically repeating.” – 92 points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous

“Made from 100% Pinot Noir from Ambonnay, the NV Brut Grand Cru Perle Noire is a gastronomic Blanc de Noirs Champagne. The current cuvée is entirely based on 2006 and was disgorged October 2014 with a dosage of seven grams. Yellow-golden in color, the wines starts clear and fruit intense on the nose, also revealing a very nice purity and minerality. Full-bodied, complex and dry on the palate, this is an expressive and persistent champagne with character that wants to be drunk from a bigger glass with veal, chicken or Parmesan cheese.”  – 91 points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

“Full of mineral, apple and bread dough notes that are matched to a full-bodied profile, this structured Champagne has a long finish of dough and nut. Though not for everyone, this has character. Drink now through 2013. 50 cases imported.” — 90 points, BS, Wine Spectator
