WINEMAKER NOTES
Between Orange and Avignon, on the left bank of the Rhone River, the old Pope’s Castle was edified. Pilgrims, Crusaders, Templars, Hugenots, Popes and Kings, as well as Thieves and Invaders all passed through this remarkable place. Two longstanding and well known families of Chateauneuf du Pape, Jeune and Establet, who can trace their ancestors back to the 14th century, united their properties by a marriage between Christiane Establet and Pierre Elie Jeune in 1960’s, and the Domaine du Grand Tinel was established in 1972.
TASTING NOTES
Ripe and juicy with a core of blackberries, plums which are backed by fresh minerals and hot stones. Medium-bodied with nice acidity driving the fruit into the finish. Pair with beef, lamb, spicy food or mature and hard cheeses.
VINEYARD
The production of wine from 74 hectares (ha) (56 in Chateauneuf and 18 in Côtes du Rhône are vinifiied in their renovated, now modern winery at Route de Bedarrides, in the outskirts of Chateauneuf du Pape. The vineyards’ land is composed of rounded pebbles which soak up the heat of the sun during the day and restore it to the vines at night.
- Soil: Silica-clayish with rounded pebbles
VINIFICATION
The grapes are harvested only after reaching their maximum maturity which give it a robustness and powerful aromas. Today, Christophe, Béatrice and Isabelle Jeune continue the family tradition of producing great wines of the region.
